"How much should I spend?" is one of the first questions people ask when they start looking for an engagement ring. With lab-grown diamonds, the answer is often more approachable than people expect. In this guide we share real prices from our own collection, so you can see exactly what a 1ct lab-grown diamond ring costs at John Stewart Jewellers, and what makes one ring cost more than another.
Prices below are taken from our website at the time of writing and may change. Always check the product page for the latest price.

What affects the price of a lab-grown diamond ring?
Two rings with the same carat weight can be priced differently. These are the main reasons:
1. Carat weight
Generally, the heavier the diamond, the higher the price. You can see this in our Classic Hidden-Accent Solitaire range, which goes from £950 for 1ct to £1,200 for 1.5ct and £1,450 for 2ct.
2. Shape and cut
Round brilliants, ovals, pears, marquise, emerald and radiant cuts each have their own character. The quality of the cut also has a major effect on how much a diamond sparkles.
3. Colour and clarity
Diamonds are graded on how colourless they are and how free they are from tiny inclusions. Higher grades usually cost more.
4. The setting
A simple solitaire uses less metal and fewer stones than a halo, trilogy or toi et moi design. Hidden halos, pavé bands and side stones all add sparkle and craftsmanship, which is reflected in the price.
5. The metal
Most of our engagement rings are crafted in 9ct gold, which is durable and great value. Some designs are also offered in 18ct gold or platinum, which costs more. For example, our Aries Band is £295 in 9ct gold and £595 in 18ct gold or platinum. Read more in our guide, 9ct vs 18ct Gold vs Platinum.
Don't forget the wedding band
If you're planning ahead, it's worth thinking about a matching wedding band too. Many of our bands are made to order, with production times of up to six weeks, and our in-store designers can 3D scan your engagement ring to craft a perfectly matching band.
